Assistance to a volunteer who managed to escape persecution by the Belarusian KGB in Poland

  • Story

Good afternoon, dear friends!
A few weeks ago I managed to evacuate because of persecution by the regime for my volunteer work. But my close people remained hostages in Belarus. Some have already been arrested, others are still being interrogated, so I cannot give my name publicly.

If it were not for the persecution, I would not have left the country. Fortunately, I was not at home when they came for me. At that point I had to make a quick decision to evacuate and I left the country with virtually nothing. I am appealing to you for help so that I can have a place to live and something to eat for the first time.

It is very strange and awkward for me to ask for help, because for a long time I myself was the person who helped others, saved and transferred money. Fate has turned my life upside down. I can't accept this situation yet, but my desperate situation makes me turn to you, kind people.

For four years I have tried to help Belarusians inside the country, remembering our solidarity in 2020 and continuing this work on my own. I sent letters and postcards, parcels to political prisoners, gifts to their children, made transfers to detention centers and much more.

After the suppression of the protests, I was happy that I could improve the lives of people affected by the regime at least a little bit. It was my personal struggle. I fought to the last. Officially, money transfers, sending parcels and correspondence to prisons are not forbidden in Belarus. However, such support and solidarity become a reason for persecution. In the end they came for me too. The regime does everything possible to destroy horizontal ties between people, driving people into a state of general mistrust and fear.

I had to flee from persecution to Poland. I ask for your help for the first time to rent some kind of housing, food, basic necessities and clothes. Besides, for legalization abroad I need an interpreter, whose services I also do not have the means to pay.

For my part, I promise to continue supporting people in Belarus as soon as I get in shape, without losing the contacts I have established.

I will be grateful to everyone who will respond to my plight!
