Valeria is the widow of a Belarusian volunteer who was killed defending Ukraine and the mother of three children. After her husband's death, the entire responsibility for the family fell on her shoulders. Although she is working, her income barely covers food and everyday expenses. The family urgently needs support.
My name is Valeria*. I am a mother of three and the widow of a Belarusian volunteer who was killed defending Ukraine.
When Russia launched its full-scale invasion, I openly spoke out against the war. I was sentenced to administrative detention for participating in a protest. After that, my husband decided to go and defend Ukraine.
Later, he was killed.
After his death, I became solely responsible for our children and our home.
For a long time, I could not find a job. I was turned down for almost six months, and during that time utility debts accumulated. I am now employed, but I earn only about $400 a month. That income barely covers our most basic needs. Sometimes I have to choose between paying the bills and buying food.
Over the past few years, we have sold almost everything we could just to make ends meet.
I cannot receive financial assistance as the family of a deceased breadwinner. Because my husband fought on Ukraine's side, the authorities continue to investigate him even after his death. The pressure on our family has never stopped: interrogations, searches, confiscation of phones, and detentions without explanation. Every such detention puts my job – and our already fragile financial situation – at risk.
Beyond our daily expenses, there are urgent household problems that I can no longer postpone. We live in a house that requires repairs: the roof is leaking, the property needs maintenance, and other essential repairs cannot wait. I can no longer manage all of this on my own.
Today I am asking for help for my family. Unfortunately, I cannot share more details about our situation to protect our freedom and safety.
The funds raised will help us pay our most urgent debts, provide the children with the essentials they need, preserve our home, and get through this incredibly difficult period.
I will be sincerely grateful to everyone who chooses to support us.
