Hello!
My name is Siarhei Zhiburtovich, I am from Minsk. For a long time I worked as a milling machine operator at MTZ plant, but I lost my job because of my civic position and participation in the defense of workers' rights. Since 2020 I have been repeatedly detained and given 24 hours for supporting changes in Belarus.
I was in the initiative group of Sviatlana Tihanouskaya and helped in her election campaign. I also defended workers' rights as a member of an independent trade union. In 2020 I was fired from the factory for spreading “incorrect information”. After that I was arrested for 40 days. After that it became clear that a safe life for me and my family in Belarus was impossible. We received threats, we were summoned to the investigation committee, and further detentions could lead to family separation. In the end, we were forced to leave our homeland.
Life in emigration turned out to be difficult. Here, every mistake or failure resets all achievements to zero. And that's exactly what happened to us: after moving, the whole family got COVID-19, which knocked us out for many weeks. We lost our ability to work and earn, and debts accumulated for rent, utilities and our eldest son's university tuition.
We are appealing for help to cover debts, pay rent and utilities and support our family while we try to start a new life in a new place.
Every contribution you make is a step towards enabling our family to live a life of freedom and dignity despite the ordeal we have been through.
Good always triumphs over evil. Thank you for your support! LIVE BELARUS!
