Vadzim Kovalev, 51, from Vitseblyan, was convicted under Article 370 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (abuse of state symbols) and sentenced to 2 years of “home chemistry” (a type of punishment when the convicted person remains at liberty, but with restrictions — BYSOL note). He was also placed on a list of citizens involved in extremist activities.
After that, at the end of 2022, Vadim went to Latvia, where he received refugee status. There he worked on restoring his driver's license in order to continue working as a trucker.
On September 14, 2023, Vadim was found dead in a park in Riga. His body is still in the morgue, the police are conducting a check.
Unfortunately, the mother and brother of the deceased do not have the means to repatriate the body to their homeland.
