TOR BAND became widely known and loved by millions of Belarusians in 2020. The clip of the song “We are not a nation” on YouTube gained more than a million views in a few months. Other compositions of the musicians became hits: “Zhyve Belarus,” “Go away,” “Batsyka,” “Matsi,” “Dead Frost.”
Despite the bold lyrics of the compositions, TOR BAND continued to stay in Belarus. The musicians were detained in October 2022. In January 2023 it became known that Tor Band was recognized as an extremist formation and a criminal case was opened against its members.
On October 31, 2023 Homiel Regional Court sentenced the band members to terms from 7.5 to 9 years in prison. Each musician was also fined 100 basic units (3,700 rubles).
During his time in jail, drummer Yevgeni Burlo received disability group 3. He needs surgery on the hip joint. Equipment and musical instruments were also confiscated from the musicians.
