Violinist and participant of the 2020 protests Tatsiana Hrynevich-Matafonava is preparing for an important surgery. Most of the amount has already been raised, €2200 remains.
My name is Tatsiana Hrynevich-Matafonava. I am a Belarusian musician, violinist, and active participant in the 2020 protests: on the square near the Red Church – with a violin, guitar, and dancing.
For many years I have been living with anemia, which significantly complicates my life and work. As far back as 12 years ago, Belarusian doctors insisted on radical surgery with removal of reproductive organs: “Either surgery or you will die…”. At that time, I could not agree to this. All these years I continued to live and work despite fatigue and pain.
Some time ago I consulted a Turkish doctor, because it is very important for me to preserve my strength and health in order to continue working for our culture. And I received a different answer: instead of radical intervention, a more gentle path is possible – a laparoscopic surgery to remove fibroids.
This gives me a chance not only to improve my health, but also to preserve myself.
My surgery is scheduled for April 30. Its cost is about €4200 (approximately $4800), and it is very difficult for me to cover this amount on my own.
I continue my work: creating children’s songs, a project with voices of poets, romances, patriotic songs, lullabies. This is my way of preserving and passing on Belarusian culture.
