“The “court” of the Central District of Gomel found Tatyana and Leonid guilty of organizing and preparing “actions that grossly violate public order, preparing persons to participate in such actions” as well as financing them. “The trial was closed.
Tatiana and Leonid were sentenced. Three years in prison for Leonid and 2.5 years for Tatiana.
Leonid and Tatyana were recognized as political prisoners.
Tatsiana was an initiator of cultural and social actions in Rechytsa, was nominated to the deputy, created and updated the history of Rechytsa.
Tatsiana takes the lack of freedom hard. A month before the arrest her mother left and her father, who is about 70 years old, became seriously ill. It is even hard for him to move around. Tatyana herself is weak, had a severe coronavirus, and was hospitalized. Her condition was very weak.
Leonid is a human rights activist with 20 years of experience, chairman of Homel branch of Human Rights Center "Viasna".
He helped to prepare and send numerous individual appeals to the UN Human Rights Committee against Belarus. For his human rights work, he was awarded the prestigious French Freedom — Equality — Fraternity Award in 2019. In the same year, he was awarded the National Award for Human Rights in the category "Human Rights Defender of the Year" by the Belarusian human rights community.
