After his release, Sergey* faced the threat of new criminal prosecution and fled to Poland. However, his family remains in Belarus. They need support to reunite.
My name is Sergey, I am from Minsk. After my release, it took only a few weeks to realize that political prisoners under preventive supervision have no freedom. Security officers practically “moved into” my home: they came 5–6 times a day, sometimes late in the evening or even at night.
My wife and I have four underage children. When I asked the officers why this was happening to us, they laughed and said that I should have “gone back in time and not gotten caught.” They also said they could easily open a new criminal case against me if they wanted to.
I took this threat seriously and urgently left for Poland. My wife, daughter, and three sons remained at home because we did not have the time or resources to leave together. We still don’t have those resources, and I don’t know what to do.
I try to support my family and send them money, but this cannot go on for long — a family should be together. I have already spent a long time waiting for them while I was in prison.
The main challenges now are preparing documents for departure, finding housing, and apostilling all diplomas. I am asking for support because I want my family to finally be able to leave Belarus so we can live together safely.
Please help us be together.
Thank you!
