The year 2020 was full of hope. My husband decided to become an election observer and I supported him. Like many Belarusians, we took an active part in the protest movement together. Then we had many administrative detentions and at the end of 2021 we were searched and arrested.
After the searches, interrogations and trials my husband was charged under article 342.1 for participating in two marches. In February I was also charged. The result was 1.5 years in jail for my husband and 2 years of “home chemistry” for me. On the day of the arraignment I was fired from my job. It is hard to find a job, the words “get us right” are heard after every interview.
We have two children in our family who need support and care. The eldest is a schoolboy, and he has a new school year coming up. We have to get the child ready for school, pay for food, pay the rent, and our family has been deprived of every possible means.
