Former political prisoner remaining in Belarus needs support due to health and financial problems

  • Story

“I spent four years behind bars, lost almost 40 kg and my health there. But the worst thing began after my release: now I am a hostage at large, under constant surveillance and in debt that I have no money to pay.”

After four years of imprisonment, Stanislav (we have changed the hero's name for security reasons) is still under preventive surveillance and will not be able to leave Belarus for a long time.

His life has become a struggle for survival: it is impossible to get an official job, and money is desperately needed to pay off debts, lawsuits and recover from prison.

“They took everything from me: my income, the opportunity to work, and most importantly, a normal life for my family,” Stanislav says. “Before my arrest, I could calmly raise my children and take care of my parents. Now I literally do not know how to feed my family. All the money goes to pay off debts and lawsuits.”

In addition to serious financial difficulties, health problems have also been added: he needs medications and rehabilitation after the harsh conditions in prison. Stanislav does not ask for anything more than necessary, only support to feel human again:

“Believe me, it is hard for me to ask for help. But there is no other way out. Now I am powerless alone against the system that took everything away.”
