In 2021 I was detained at my workplace for a comment on social networks and sentenced to 2 years in prison (Article 130 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus — incitement to hatred or discord). At home, I was left with my wife on maternity leave and three children. My wife spent all the money we had saved for a “rainy day” on a lawyer, transfers and payment of the loan for the apartment.
After my release, I could not get a job because of my “political” past. We still had no plans to leave the country, even though there were constant visits from law enforcers, who often showed up at night, scaring my wife and children.
My wife wanted to go to work (she is a doctor), but back in 2020 she was offered to leave on her own volition because of her political stance, and soon she went on maternity leave.
We made the decision to leave after we were informed through acquaintances that another criminal case might be brought against me for participating in rallies in 2020 and for materials from my social networks.
After moving, we found ourselves with debts in a half-empty apartment with a minimum of things we managed to take with us from Belarus. We would be very grateful if you can support our family.
