My story wouldn't surprise anyone these days. Life was going well for our family until a certain point. My daughter worked in the only rehabilitation center for animals in Belarus. She helped handicapped animals. She nursed and looked after them, mostly at night. It was very hard, but she liked to help those who cannot help themselves.
In June of this year everything changed dramatically. My daughter was at home alone. She was waiting for a courier to bring her the artificial milk for the kittens she had taken to the shelter. The doorbell rang. She thought it was the delivery guy. But the peephole in the door was closed and men's voices could be heard. She was afraid to open it, but after 20 minutes she noticed that there was gas under the door. So she opened it…
What followed was the first arrest, the trial, and a sentence of 1.6 years in jail with time served in a penal colony. All because the daughter was not afraid to speak the truth and defend her civic position. Besides the verdict from the court, “Minsktrans” sued for a huge fine. Our family needs support in order to help our daughter as much as possible while she is incarcerated. Everyone's solidarity would be appreciated.
