Hello! My name is Daniil Garkavy. From November 2020 to March 2025, I worked in Svetlana Tikhanovskaya's team.
These years were full of meaning, but also of enormous stress. Constant tension, high responsibility and lack of rest – all this did not pass without a trace. In January 2025, I underwent an examination, during which I was diagnosed with oncology. Now I have to change the vector of work to the fight for life.
I was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer – soft tissue sarcoma. So rare that, according to statistics from medical sources, such diagnoses are given to literally a few in a million. In Belarus, most likely, people with such diseases can be counted on the fingers of one hand. In Lithuania, where I now live, this type of sarcoma is practically not encountered.
It quickly became clear that I needed to seek treatment outside the country. I managed to get a consultation with an experienced oncologist surgeon in Berlin, who specializes in such rare tumours. He is ready to perform the operation using a special technique that gives the best chances for long-term remission.
What awaits me:
1. A very complicated operation to remove the tumor with tissue transplantation — due to the characteristics of the sarcoma, a large area will have to be removed,
2. Radiation therapy, which I will be able to undergo in Lithuania.
The cost of the operation and accompanying treatment in Germany is an unaffordable amount for me. Therefore, for the first time in many years, I am asking for help.
All these five years I have seen our Belarusian solidarity and have been a part of it, I have always known that no one should be left alone with their troubles. All five years I have watched how Belarusians pulled each other out of the most difficult situations. And I am sure that with your help I can do the same now.
