The man was arrested in September 2021 and sentenced to two and a half years in prison under the “Zeltser case”. Having fully served his sentence, Roman* was released in mid-2023, having endured torture, moral and physical pressure from the colony staff. In addition, the conditions of detention undermined his health — he partially lost his eyesight and is now working to restore it.
Despite the difficulties and biased attitude of the law enforcers to former political prisoners, Roman decided to stay in Belarus. At liberty he faced serious difficulties in finding a job and the need to restore his health.
Attempts to find a decent and well-paid job in my specialty were unsuccessful — I was not hired anywhere,” said Roman. — I worked part-time in private organizations, but I didn't manage to stay there for long either. I lost my last job because of the negative attitude of the management towards people associated with the events of August 2020.
Despite all the difficulties, the man does not put his hands down and plans to earn money by remote work to restore his health and provide for himself. But to do so, he needs a computer with a quality monitor that is safe for his eyesight. He's not asking for money to live on — he needs a working tool that he can't afford without a steady income.
Roman adds that any of your help will be an invaluable contribution to his return to a normal and full life in Belarus!
