BYMEDSOL Foundation Appeals for Help for Their Volunteer Targeted by Security Forces

  • Story

My name is Lidiya Tarasenko, and I’m reaching out to you as a coordinator of the BYMEDSOL Foundation. One of our dedicated volunteers urgently needs help.

Nastya* is a nurse by profession. She’s been involved in activism for many years — even participating in protests back in the 2000s. In 2020, she took to the streets as a medic from the very first days of the protests. When our organization was formed, she immediately became an active member of BYMEDSOL.

In 2021, Nastya was detained by GUBOPiK for taking part in the marches. She served time at the notorious Okrestina detention center on administrative charges. By a twist of fate, she later ended up in a CIS country — but recently, security forces came to her home to conduct a search.

Nastya managed to leave and take shelter with friends, but this is only a temporary solution. We are trying to help her find legal representation, which requires funding. In the meantime, she cannot work, and she urgently needs financial support for basic personal expenses.

I know Nastya personally, as do many activists and medics. She is the embodiment of a healthcare worker who genuinely cares. After years in the profession, she has never burned out or lost her empathy. She deeply believed that the 2020 protests were about humanity and civic responsibility — values that are essential for any medical professional.

Even now, five years later, Nastya continues to resist dictatorship and help others. That’s why I’m asking for your help today. Thank you for standing with her.
