My name is Alesia Bordukhaeva-Arol. I am Andrei’s wife.
He was an actor, an activist, a man who lived his whole life not just for himself.
Many knew him for his roles in the theater. Some – for his film roles. And some – for his voice.
Andrei voiced independent news, worked with Flagstok and was the voice of the Belarusian Investigators’ Alliance. He fought the regime, spoke the truth, took part in the life of the Belarusian community and helped those who were worse off.
For the truth he spoke, his personal channels were repeatedly designated as extremist.
He went through emigration and a severe illness, but never stopped standing with others.
He never asked for help for himself. “Someone needs it more,” he used to say, even when things were awful. He believed till the end that he would survive. He worked as long as he could, even with a drip. He never told anyone how hard it really was.
Andrei passed away on 5 July.
Burying a loved one is one of the hardest things that can happen.
And when you have to do it in another country, where everything works differently, it becomes a thousand times harder.
And every one of these “different ways” has its own cost. We were not ready for this. But how can you ever be ready?
From the very beginning we knew we wanted to say goodbye our own way: with a funeral service, a real church service, with a warm, heartfelt farewell.
And we did it.
After his death, friends started a fundraiser. About €2800 was raised.
This is huge support. I thank everyone who stood by us. With all my heart.
But the total costs for the funeral, the service, the burial of the urn, transport, flowers and the memorial meal came to about €5000.
Now there is still a part we cannot cover ourselves – this is €2000. That is why I am asking for help.

The total costs for Andrei’s funeral came to about €5000 – including cremation, burial, a place in the columbarium, transport, flowers and the memorial meal. Part of this amount we were able to cover ourselves and with the help of friends. Now about €2000 is still needed to fully cover all expenses.
