Rehabilitation for a Belarusian volunteer

  • Story

My name is S. Since I was a teenager, I have been involved in the Belarusian protest movement, and even before 2020 I was detained many times. In 2020, I was excited to join the new wave of solidarity I had been waiting for. But the way it ended was a huge disappointment for me, and I've been going through it for a long time.

Because of the danger of being persecuted, I was forced to leave Belarus. However, the feeling of incompleteness and the fact that I had to continue the struggle did not leave me. So when war broke out, I decided to act.

From the spring of 2022 to August 2024, I was stationed in Ukraine. I became a mortarman and participated in combat operations as part of one of the Belarussian units. During this time I received awards and the status of a combat participant.

Unfortunately, during my service I started having problems with my back. At first the pains were tolerable, but by the winter of 2024 they began to cause serious discomfort. In the spring I went to a doctor in Kiev, underwent an MRI and a rehabilitation course that lasted three weeks. This helped, but did not solve the problem completely. The doctors recommended a longer rehabilitation, which involves complete refusal of physical activity.

After my dismissal, I left Ukraine for one of the EU countries to take care of my health and documents. Now I am awaiting a decision on international protection, and I will not be able to work legally for the next few months. That's why I'm thinking of doing rehabilitation now.

I have enough money to take care of my basic needs, but I really need the help of a professional to guide me through the whole recovery process. We are talking about a sum of 1400 euros.

I am asking for your help and I hope to feel the very Belarusian solidarity that has supported us all this time.

Thank you for any help and attention!
