A Belarusian woman faced criminal prosecution because of her civic stance and lost her job. She now needs support to provide for her three children on her own, one of whom requires constant care.
My name is Viktoria*, and for most of my life I worked at an industrial enterprise in a regional city. I live in Belarus and am raising three children on my own. All of them are minors, and one requires constant care due to health issues. Before I was arrested for my civic position in 2020, we lived modestly, but I worked hard and somehow managed, even though all my income went toward supporting my children.
I opposed the violence, injustice, and abuses committed by the law enforcers. I refused to stay silent and eventually faced arrest and criminal prosecution. Things seem to have settled down now: no one comes to our home with inspections anymore, my children were not taken away, and we managed to keep our family together. But there is simply no work. Due to family circumstances, we cannot leave Belarus, yet no one will hire me because of my background, and we have run out of money. I am not giving up and take whatever odd jobs I can find, but as you understand, having stable employment is essential, and finding it in my situation is extremely difficult.
Please help my children and me while I rebuild our lives. We need support for the most basic necessities: food, clothing for the children, medication, care-related and transportation expenses, and utility bills until I can find a job and support us independently. In 2020, I deeply felt the support of other people, and I would be grateful to feel it again today.
