In July, KGB officers along with the riot police (or other punitive squad) broke into our apartment, beat my husband, and searched the apartment. And all this in the presence of small children, we have only ten children, two of whom are disabled. After that they confiscated flags and equipment and took my husband to the KGB for interrogation.
After my husband was released for fear of more searches, arrests, and removal of children from the family (such threats came from KGB officers because of our and our older children's participation in actions aimed at restoring democracy and the rule of law in our country), we made the difficult decision to leave the country.
It was not easy to move all the children, one of whom was disabled and needed several catheterizations a day, as well as regular medications. However, what was most important to us was that we were all close to each other and in relative safety.
We have had to borrow a large sum of money to move and live in, which we need to pay back. We also need money to move to a safer country where we can be supported by friends. We are facing a lot of expenses for the necessary paperwork, travel, and living expenses for the first few months until we can pay for housing, food, and running costs.
