A Belarusian woman who left the country after 2020 has lost her job and is experiencing severe depression with self-harm. She urgently needs support for treatment and recovery.
Hello! This is the BYSOL fundraising team. Today we want to share the story of Alina*, who reached out to us for help.
This is an anonymous story because Alina is in a vulnerable situation: she is currently experiencing severe depression and needs treatment and professional support. To avoid worsening her condition and to maintain a safe space for her, we are sharing this story without revealing her identity.
Alina left Belarus after 2020 – she took part in marches in Minsk and faced the threat of persecution. After moving to Georgia, she worked as a project manager and supported herself without help from relatives.
However, in 2025, Alina was unexpectedly laid off: the job market is overheated, there are few vacancies, and finding a new job has become much more difficult. Shortly after losing her job, she also suffered a serious infectious illness and was confined at home for a month.
This period became a тяжелым испытанием: isolation, constant rejections from job interviews, and uncertainty severely affected her condition. Alina is now experiencing deep depression with suicidal thoughts and episodes of self-harm. She needs help from a psychologist and psychotherapist, as well as medical support and treatment. Despite this, she continues to look for work and tries not to give up.
Recently, Alina had to leave her apartment because she could no longer afford the rent. The loss of stability and basic security has only worsened her condition and makes it harder for her to focus on recovery.
“I just want to feel like I can live normally again,” says Alina.
The main goal is to help Alina receive the necessary treatment: to pay for professional support and ensure basic living conditions during her recovery.
Alina is asking for help to get through this period and return to a normal life. Your support can give her a chance to regain stability.
Thank you,
