Financial Aid to a Political Refugee Family

  • Story

Our family was active in the pre-election and post-election life of our nation. On 14.07.2020 my father was detained at a protest for not allowing Victor Dmitrievich Babariko to participate in the elections and received 18 days of administrative arrest for this action.

Afterwards, on August 7, 2020, my father and I were preventively detained and sentenced to 10 days in jail. On September 13, 2020 we were at the so-called “round dance” in Brest, where my father and I were arrested and sentenced to 15 days in jail again. During our detention we were declared suspects under Article 342 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. We were safely released from the temporary detention facility and were held on recognizance not to leave, while I was expelled from BrSU after I defiantly left the classroom during a “dialogue” with the prosecutor of the Brest region. Then, on 09.02.2021, I was arrested and put in a detention center. There I served 4 months until 8.06.2021. My father and I were sentenced to two years of “chemistry” with a referral.

We realized that we would be more useful to victory if we were outside, so we decided we would have to flee the country. I cannot tell you exactly how we fled, but for the next month we were on the run. Now we are in Poland. In quarantine, with almost no means of living. We also need to move our mother from Belarus to Poland.
