A mother of many children was sentenced in a politically motivated criminal case and served her prison term in a correctional facility. After her release, she faced divorce, unemployment, and financial hardship. She is in a desperate situation and needs support.
Kateryna* is in her early forties. She is a mother of many children who spent most of her life caring for her family and raising children. Her participation in peaceful protests and marches in 2020 led to criminal prosecution. The court’s sentence was not affected by the fact that she was a mother of many children responsible for young kids: Kateryna was sent to a correctional facility, where she served her full prison term.
Things did not become easier after her release. Her husband did not share her political views, and over time this led to conflicts, then divorce, and a difficult division of property. At one point, she was left alone with the children and without financial support. The children’s father moved abroad for work and only contacts them occasionally. The entire responsibility for raising the children fell on her shoulders.
However, with a politically motivated conviction, finding a job that would allow her to support her family is nearly impossible. She takes on different kinds of work, but it is catastrophically insufficient. Gradually, debts began to accumulate, and coping with the financial burden became increasingly difficult.
After enduring pressure during imprisonment, separation from her children, divorce, and now severe financial difficulties, she is struggling psychologically. Constant anxiety about her children’s future and the need to handle everything alone are exhausting. The children try to support their mother — helping around the house, being more careful with spending, and sticking together. It is painful for Kateryna that instead of a carefree childhood, her children had to face such hardships far too early.
Today, Kateryna’s family lives very modestly. Their income barely covers basic needs: food, clothing, and utility bills. Any unexpected expense becomes a serious problem.
The funds raised will help the family get through the coming months, reduce stress levels, and give the children a sense of stability. Your support is a chance for the children to look toward the future with more confidence — and for their mother to breathe a little easier.
