Belarusian Volunteer and Medic Seeks Support in Exile

  • Story

A Belarusian volunteer has been serving in Ukraine since 2023, including near Bakhmut, where he was wounded. He is now in Europe awaiting a decision on international protection. Until he receives a work permit, he needs support for housing and basic expenses.

Hello, friends.

I am a Belarusian volunteer. For security reasons, I do not disclose my name, but my story and documents have been verified by the Foundation.
In January 2023, I arrived in Ukraine and joined the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment. Later, I continued my service in the Kalinouski Battalion. The first months of my service took place in one of the most difficult areas — near Bakhmut. There, I was wounded: broken ribs and a concussion. After two months of treatment, I returned to service, this time in the International Legion.

In the following years, I took part in combat operations in various directions: Zaporizhzhia, near Chasiv Yar, the Pokrovsk direction, and others. For most of my service, I worked as a combat medic. Even when going on missions with assault groups, I remained a fighter until the first wounded appeared — and then became a medic.

During the battles for Bakhmut, I worked at a stabilization point. At times, up to a hundred wounded passed through it per day. The medical team was small, and we worked almost without stopping. We rested there as well — sleeping in a basement, in a room next to where the bodies of the fallen were temporarily kept.

Later, I was involved in medical support for units: planning evacuations of the wounded, accompanying them to hospitals, and assembling medical equipment for fighters. In the last year of my service, I worked with drone operator teams, providing them with medical support and assisting the wounded.

During my service, I received several awards, including the “For Saving Life” medal and the “For Courage in Performing Special Tasks” award.
At the end of 2025, my Belarusian documents expired. I had to address my legal status. In January 2026, I crossed the Ukrainian-Polish border and applied for international protection.

I am currently in Europe awaiting a decision on my case. According to local regulations, a work permit can only be obtained several months after submitting documents. This is a period I simply need to get through. That is why I am asking for support.

During the war, I tried to help others: evacuating the wounded, saving lives, and supporting those in the most difficult situations.

I will be sincerely grateful to everyone who supports me today.
