Helping an activist charged in a criminal case to pay for a lawyer in Belarus

  • Story

A few months ago, my wife was detained at her workplace and a report was drawn up for petty hooliganism, under which we have to pay a large fine. The reason was the photos from the protests, to which the law enforcers drew attention. And then they came to us again, but with a criminal case under the article for “insulting the President of the Republic of Belarus”.

For family reasons we can't evacuate from Belarus right now, so we are preparing for the trial. The maximum term, which threatens my wife in this case, is 4 years of imprisonment. But we expect that my wife will get “home chemistry ”* and remain free.
(I don't know if you can call “home chemistry” freedom.)

To make things go well, we have enlisted the help of an attorney who is experienced in such cases. However, the lawyer's services are expensive and we need your help to pay for them because we don't have enough money on our own. Also, we need help to pay the fine that our family has to pay in an administrative case because of the photos from the protests.

Thank you for being there.

“Home Chemistry” is a type of punishment where the convict remains free, but with restrictions. The convict has a schedule for both work and personal matters, including going to the store or throwing out the trash. The police can come every day and at any time to check on them.

How much is needed?

€1500

€800 is the fine we have to pay for the administrative case. The amount is so large because it is a repeat offense.
