My name is Dmitry. I am 23 years old and I am Belarus.
Until 2020 I lived in Minsk and played basketball professionally for 9 years. In 20 I was severely detained and got a bullet wound in my shoulder (rubber weighted bullet). My vehicle was pulled over, fired upon, and I was detained. During the interrogation with beating, which lasted for 3 days, false testimony was beaten out of me. At the same time I suffered a knee injury — one of the officers kicked me on the inside of my knee and tore cruciate ligaments and menisci. In addition, I received other injuries (head injury, fracture of the hand, huge hematomas all over my body). The blows to my head caused my vision to deteriorate.
After 4 days I was hospitalized and was in rehab for 2 months. During this time a criminal case was opened against me under Articles 363 and 218 (Article 363 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus — resistance to an employee of the internal affairs bodies, Article 218 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus — willful destruction or damage of another person's property). They wanted to take me into custody, but luckily I managed to escape. Now I live in Poland.
Unfortunately, the consequences of the traumas suffered in 2020 cause a lot of problems now. I really don't want to become a cripple in my 26-27 years who can barely walk. That's why I decided to have surgery on my knee. Unfortunately, because of the huge waiting lists, it takes 2-3 years to wait for free surgery. And I don't have that much time. So I am asking for your help to get a paid treatment.
I have never sought this kind of help before. However, now I am in a position where I realize that my health is more important than anything else. Thank you!
