“Please help me save him!” – a father asks for help for his son

  • Story

22-year-old Yakov is in a coma after a suicide attempt. His father, a Belarusian activist and volunteer, asks for help to give his son a chance to live.

My name is Dmitry Kudelevich. I am a member of the strike committee of OAO “Belaruskali.” In 2020, after my arrest, I had to flee the country. After the start of the war in Ukraine, I became a volunteer with the “Democracy Angels” foundation and helped Ukrainian children.

I have a son, Yakov. He is 22 years old. An intelligent, well-mannered, and very sensitive person. He is passionate about the history of medieval Europe, loves learning, and has always tried to help others. Together with me, he also volunteered with “Democracy Angels,” helping people fleeing the war.

But two weeks ago, a tragedy happened to Yakov: he was found unconscious. A large amount of potent medications was found in his blood. Most likely, my son attempted to take his own life.

This was preceded by difficult events: expulsion from university after unsuccessful attempts to retake an exam, a painful breakup of his first serious relationship, and finally, a refusal of international protection in the Czech Republic. Having neither the emotional strength nor the financial means to appeal, he decided that there was no other way out… Emotional and psychological burnout, the collapse of plans, lack of stability, the struggle with constant external threats, fear for his family and his own life – all of this led him to an acute state of despair and hopelessness.

For more than two weeks now, my son has been in a coma. He is in intensive care, connected to medical equipment that breathes for him and sustains his life. Machines, medications, constant monitoring. Every day in intensive care is a fight for my son’s life. And then – months, and most likely years of rehabilitation. Doctors say that the chances of full recovery are small. They tell me to pray. And I believe in a miracle. I am ready to go this path to the end, to do everything so that my son survives. But faith alone is not enough now.

I ask you: help my son survive. I know what it is to support people in difficult times – I have done it many times. But now my son needs help.

Please help me save him!
