Helping an activist who was deprived of all sources of income because of his civic position

  • Story

Since August 2020, I, like all prudent Belarusians, went out to all the protests in my city. Until December 20, 2020, I managed to avoid being detained. However, on this very day about 30 people were detained, and I was among them. Maybe because the detention center was overcrowded, all detainees were given the people's article 23.34 and released on the same day.

The arrest and release wasn't the end of it. My place of work received a call. They had an “educational” monologue with me and made it clear that my contract would not continue (it ended in 2021). This conversation influenced my decision to leave Belarus.

It so happened that in May and June 2022 all my earnings in the new country would go to rent. I will not be able to pay the loan for the apartment I bought in Belarus in 2019. On top of that come the financial challenges of living in the new country — buying groceries and necessities also requires some funds. I would really like to have a place to which I can return after the overthrow of the dictatorial regime. That's why I'm asking for help.

How much is needed?

620€ — funds to maintain life in the new country; help to pay the loan for a place to live in Belarus.
