Step into IT: support for a former political prisoner

  • Story

My name is Andrey Avsievich. In 2020, I participated in peaceful protests against election fraud in Belarus and was twice placed under administrative arrest. And in 2021 I was detained in a fabricated criminal case because of a comment on the Internet. The court accused me of “inciting social hatred,” and I was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a general regime colony.

In detention, they tried to make me admit guilt and say things I had not done. After my release in June 2024, I found myself under constant control of the authorities: regular police visits, night calls and searches, constant checks. I lived in fear of being detained again on yet another false charge.

In the end, I was forced to leave Belarus for Poland, saving my freedom. But I had to leave with literally only one backpack on my shoulders.

When I was detained, they confiscated my equipment — a laptop and a computer on which I was learning to work with 3D graphics. I ended up losing everything that helped me develop and move forward.

Now I am in Warsaw, trying to start my life from scratch. For this purpose I need help:

  • to buy a laptop so that I can retrain in IT and find a stable job;
  • for temporary housing until I get back on my feet;
  • for clothes and basic things that I just don't have.

I want to become self-sufficient and continue to build my future despite everything I've been through. Any help you can give me is invaluable. Thank you for your support!
